I am a 6’2” Setter/Right Side/Middle and captain at Lakeville North High School, as well as a member of the Mizuno Northern Lights Juniors Club Team. I have verbally committed to play Division I volleyball at Creighton University. In 2023, I led my high school varsity team in kills, aces, and assists, earned Star Tribune All-Metro First Team and Minnesota All-State honors, and was a finalist for the Pioneer Press East Metro Player of the Year. This past club season, I helped lead my team to a USA Nationals championship in the 17 American division, where I was named MVP and selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Senior, 6-2, setter/right side hitter

The article spotlights Rayna Christianson as one of the nation’s top setters, a Creighton recruit, and a contender for Miss Volleyball. Fresh off a USA Volleyball junior national title, she credits former coach Jackie Richter for shaping her skills, leadership, and love for the game.

Rayna Christianson never expected to experience a coaching change going into her senior volleyball season at Lakeville North.

One of the nation’s top setters and a Creighton recruit, Christianson saw her mentor, Jackie Richter, depart to become a Division I assistant at St. Thomas this year. She was replaced by Champlin Park’s longtime coach, John Yunker.

“Jackie helped me so much with becoming a better player and better person on the court,” Christianson said. “She kind of made me love the sport of volleyball.”

Accolades

  • What a talent Christianson is! At 6-2, she's long and is good enough setting and hitting it's hard to say which she is better at. She has great hands running the offense and is a total mismatch when attacking with her height.

  • Christianson has tremendous upside and potential in her 6-2 frame. She has a strong, consistent delivery as a setter. And with her height, she can easily go over blockers and is a scoring threat all across the front row.
